Educational cooperation between China and Somalia is of great importance in the development of relations between the two countries. For successive years, China offers full Government Scholarships to Somalia, which has helped Somali in human resource development and deepened the mutual understanding between the two peoples.
In Academic Year 2016/2017, China offers full Chinese Government Scholarships to 42 Somali students.
On 2nd September 2016, 19 of them, as the first batch, departed for China. H.E. Mr. Wei Hongtian, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, and H.E. Mr. Abdullahi Bile Noor, State Minister of Education of Somalia, saw them off at Mogadishu Airport. Ambassador Wei congratulated the students on winning the scholarships, and wished them great achievements in study and a good stay in China. State Minster Noor expressed gratitude to Ambassador Wei and the Chinese Government. The students said they appreciated the great opportunity, and they believed their study in China would be a success.
